Editorial policy

Species descriptions, guides and care advice are written and reviewed by the Identify Insect Bite editorial team. Sighting counts, state lists and seasonality are generated from data. We do not attribute automated pages to a named human author who did not write them.

Review before publication

Every guide and species entry carries a review flag in the source data. Content without that flag is not built into the site — there is no state in which unreviewed medical text is published and corrected later.

How we use automation

Drafting assistance is used the way a research assistant would be: to gather and structure material. Every clinical statement is checked against the sources listed on our sources page before it appears. Data-driven sections — record counts, months, state lists — are computed, clearly labelled as such, and never presented as clinical findings.

What we will not publish

Commercial relationships

This site is published by the makers of the Identify Insect Bite app and links to it. That relationship does not change the content: the identification material here is complete and free, and the app is offered for what it adds — photo assessment and a personalised care plan — not as a gate on information already presented.

Who publishes this

Identify Insect Bite is made by a small independent team that also publishes OpenStep, a plain-language guide to OCD and exposure and response prevention, and the app that goes with it. Different subject, same approach: the reference material is free to read, the sources are named, and nothing is attributed to a clinician who did not write it.
